Vandal

After my fabulous bridal shower that afternoon, we went home, took long naps, and then got up and got ready for dinner at Vandal, a Lower East Side restaurant I’ve been wanting to try since it opened.

Vandal is part of the Tao restaurant group, so you know the decor is going to be anything but boring!

The outside seating area is cute.

But the experience of dining inside at Vandal is well worth it. First, you walk in the front door and into a trippy black and white room that will have you wondering whether you’ve already started drinking!

Then from there you enter a long brick hallway with a very unique piece of art at the end of it.

There’s another room that presents the perfect photo background.

As well as an opportunity to record videos, snapchat filters and all!

And I’m not even talking about the restaurant yet! The bar and dining areas are beautifully decorated, drawing your eye to every unique detail.

We weaved through the busy restaurant, taking our seats at a corner table in the back.

And then we had the difficult challenge of deciding what to order.

The dishes are served family style, so you’re able to try a bite of everything. Just be careful when ordering, since whatever amount the waiter recommends is going to be significantly more food than you actually need. Upon their recommendation, we ordered eight dishes and were satisfied at four dishes and absolutely stuffed after six. Luckily, they forgot two of our dishes, so we didn’t end up being served more than we needed.

However, the waiter didn’t forget to add those two dishes to our bill, so that’s another thing to be careful of when dining at Vandal!

We had the Fish Tacos with crispy corn tortillas, creamy avocado and spicy mango relish. This was one of my favorite things I ate all evening!

We also dined on the Lobster Toast with Maine lobster, cucumber, and tarragon on a brioche. I loved this as well.

The Crispy Bao Buns were good too, with brisket, crunchy asian slaw and sesame.

We also enjoyed the Pan Seared Scallops with smoked tomato, orzo, pancetta and butternut squash.

And just as we were starting to feel full, our biggest two dishes arrived.

We had the Vandal Chicken Parm with San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil. It was good, but with all of the unique food items at Vandal it seemed too classic for the evening’s vibe.

Our final dish was the Prime Skirt Steak with Thai fried rice, coconut milk, lemongrass and chile. This dish was just ok, and not as special as the others.

I’m so glad I finally got to dine at Vandal! I loved the overall atmosphere as well as the food, and it was the perfect opportunity for our out-of-town family to experience a trendy, New York City restaurant.
