Greg and I have been doing premarital counseling through our church. On one Sunday a month, we’ve first gone to church and then, a few hours later, have met up with our pastors for the counseling. With the time that we have in between, we’ve started a tradition that (of course) involves food.
We walk to nearby Le Pif on the Upper West Side for brunch.
We sit down and look at the menu, even though we already know exactly what we’ll order.
Greg starts with a coffee.
And I begin with a French Bellini featuring cherry, raspberry liquor, and brut rosé.
Then we share our best-loved dishes, like this Foie Gras & Toasted Bread served with apple-honey truffle sauce.
And our favorite dish at Le Pif, the Ravioli de Royans which is crunchy ravioli with conté truffle oil and basil pesto.
Then we round out our brunch with the Croque Madame, a ham, béchamel, gruyère cheese, and egg sandwich served on brioche with a green salad.
Then we head off into Central Park to wander around a bit (and work off all of that food!) before our premarital counseling begins.

Not a bad Sunday tradition, wouldn’t you say?
