For Christmas this year, my grandma got Greg and me tickets to see Mean Girls on Broadway! I had been wanting to see the show for ages, so I was so excited to finally see it! Greg, on the other hand, just likes spending time with me… even if it means watching Mean Girls on Broadway, ha!
Our seats were absolutely perfect.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I love the movie, but didn’t know how well it would translate into a musical.

The first ten or so minutes of both acts started a little slow, however the momentum of the story quickly built.

The adaptation was great, and little tweaks were done to make the story more modern, like adding a social media element. Can you believe the Mean Girls movie came out before we had Facebook?!

The sets were really well done. I also was impressed with the choreography, and the creative ways the characters moved their desks, lunch tables and lunch trays during the musical numbers.

And, of course, there was a lot of pink!

The biggest difference between the musical and the movie is that the musical has a lot more depth. The musical’s characters felt more articulated and thought out. For example, in the musical Gretchen struggles more with her role as Regina’s best friend, and how that affects her identity and self worth.

In fact all of the musical’s main characters brought their own spins to their roles. Cady was endearing, Damien was hilarious, and Regina impressed me with her vocal range.

Oh and did I mention I loved the songs? They were so catchy and fun, a perfect embodiment of the Mean Girls narrative.

I could tell the audience had a lot of fun too, laughing out loud throughout the performance.

Mean Girls on Broadway exceeded my expectations! It was so much fun that even Greg liked it! It’s definitely worth seeing!
