Greg and I spent Christmas Day in Chicago, and although it wasn’t as cold this year as it is most years, we were still excited a few days later to escape the winter chill for sunny Florida.
While there we celebrated a belated Christmas with his family.
And my brother Josh, and his fiancée Kate, drove down from Jacksonville one day to spend time with us.
While they were there we laughed hysterically while playing What Do You Meme? If you haven’t gotten this game yet then you need to ASAP!
(They’re not sponsoring me I just really like the game)!
We left the house in time to witness another gorgeous Florida sunset.
And then we drove to nearby St. Augustine for dinner.
If you’ve never been to St. Augustine, it’s a quaint, historic town that also happens to be the oldest city in the U.S. It’s fun just walking around and taking in the Spanish colonial architecture.
For dinner, several people had recommended Prohibition Kitchen, so we figured we would give it a try.
The restaurant has live music most nights, which I always think adds something special to a dining experience.
And I suppose having Josh and Kate there added something special too!
Josh ordered the Hot Fudge Brownie and Bourbon Milkshake for the table (because why not start with dessert first? It is the holidays, after all)!
Before the waiter brought it out he told us to get our cameras ready. You don’t need to tell that to a blogger twice!
The milkshake was fun looking. It wasn’t quite these milkshakes, but I admire Prohibition Kitchen’s effort!
We also ordered the Classic Poutine for the table. Prohibition Kitchen’s version has crispy fries topped with cheese curds, short rib gravy, sour cream and chives.
I was determined to have a better poutine experience than last time I ordered it, and this version was definitely better. Although I still think Canadians make it best!
For his main course, Josh ordered the Short Rib Grilled Cheese with cheddar cheese, sofrito, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and garlic aioli on sourdough bread. I tried a bite and thought it was good, but nothing remarkable.
Greg and Kate both ordered the PK Signature Burger which is a 1/2 pound blend of short rib, brisket, sirloin and smoked bacon with red onion jam, a fried egg and red dragon cheese. Everyone loved it (yes, Josh and I helped ourself to many bites of their burgers)!
I had The Bootlegger Burger with smoked bacon, a fried pickled green tomato, house pimento cheese and arugula. I liked this burger a lot too, and had a hard time choosing my favorite between the two!
So the moral of the story is this: if you eat at Prohibition Kitchen, order a burger with a side of fries!
Afterwards we strolled through St. Augustine, enjoying the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations.
And enjoying each other’s company.
(Insert my mom’s “awww” here)!
Merry Christmas from St. Augustine!
