Il Mulino

Since Lauren couldn’t make my epic sailing birthday celebration, she invited me to a celebratory dinner instead. Wine and pasta at a restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for ages? Ok Lauren, you’re forgiven!

We dined at Il Mulino on the Upper East Side. The minute the waiter came out with this massive hunk of cheese I knew I’d love the restaurant.

You can just leave that at the table, thank you very much!

We were given a lot of nibbles, actually. While they were all complimentary, the prices of our entrees did more than make up for the free food. But still, it was a nice gesture and we loved everything we tasted.

We didn’t really need an appetizer after all of that food, but the evening’s meatball special was calling our names so we ordered that too. It was so worth it!

For her entree, Lauren had the Pollo in Crosta, which is chicken sautéed with lemon and white wine in a parmigiana crust.

And I had the evening’s pasta special, also known as THE BEST PASTA DISH EVER!

It was pasta covered in a thick, creamy sauce topped with an insane amount of truffles! And you know how much I love truffles!

The waiter kept shaving the truffle and I wasn’t about to stop him!

It looks amazing, but it tasted even more decadent! At $65, was it a lot to spend on a pasta dish? Yes. But was it absolutely delicious and worth a birthday splurge? Also yes!

We were so full when our meal was over, but not too full to decline the limoncello our waiter kept pouring for us!

I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday dinner. Thanks Lauren!

I loved Il Mulino and can’t wait to go back, a rarity for me as I seldom eat at the same NYC restaurant twice. To find out more information on Il Mulino, or to make a reservation, click here.

Enjoy your meal! And if you’re really lucky, they’ll have the truffle pasta special when you dine too!
