New York City is all about brunch. We have every brunch you can possibly imagine, from jazz brunch to party brunches. So I shouldn’t have been surprised when I was invited to a drag brunch at La Pulperia, right in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen.
For $30 you can have unlimited cocktails for two hours, so of course we ordered mimosas. It’s not a proper NYC brunch without mimosas!
You can also choose from bloody Marys, screwdrivers, and red and white sangria. And if you can’t decide the staff is happy to let you mix and match throughout the two hours.
And the staff at La Pulperia are really good about refilling your glasses. Maybe a little too good, in fact…
I hadn’t expected much when it came to the food, figuring the drag show would be the main focus rather than the meal. But I was pleasantly surprised. La Pulperia’s food is delicious, and its menu has a fun latin twist that makes it stand out from other brunches.
We had the Empanadas de Maiz with creamy corn and manchego cheese.
And we ate the Tostadas with pulled pork, Mexican chorizo, black beans, a crispy corn tortilla, two eggs over easy, guacamole crema and a roasted tomato-chipotle sauce.
But I know the food isn’t what you really want to hear about!
The drag show was so much fun! On our day Ritzy Bitz hosted and had everyone in the restaurant laughing the entire time. She acted out skits, told jokes, and performed to songs, even throwing in a few impressive gymnastics tricks.
You can see her in action here:

She’s just fabulous!
La Pulperia in Hell’s Kitchen hosts drag brunch every Sunday. You can choose between two seatings: 12:00pm and 2:15pm.
And make sure you bring singles (as in dollars, not people)! According to Ritzy, “if you’re wondering, it’s always a good time to tip a drag queen!”
