I’d been wanting to see Dear Evan Hansen since it first arrived on Broadway last year. But unfortunately for its entire first year, tickets at face value were just about as difficult to obtain as those for Hamilton!
So you can imagine how thrilled I was when Greg surprised me with tickets after our Valentine’s date!
As much as I’d been wanting to see the show, I actually didn’t really know what Dear Evan Hansen was about. All I knew was how much people raved about it after they saw it, and that was good enough for me!

So if you’re in the same boat, Dear Evan Hansen is about a socially-awkard kid who, with the best of intentions, tells a lie that spirals into something bigger than he ever expected. And he finally begins fitting in but under false pretenses and based on others’ pain. He’s torn between doing the right thing and telling the truth, but also between finally being accepted and included.

Evan is endearing, and everyone who ever went to high school can relate to his awkwardness, especially around his crush. The show is hilarious, and we laughed out loud for most of it.

But it’s also a very heavy show that deals with suicide and loss, and it really touches you emotionally. So in addition to laughing a lot you’ll probably cry too. And because of the subject matter, Dear Evan Hansen really isn’t a show for young children.

I absolutely loved Dear Evan Hansen. It’s a phenomenal show and really touches you emotionally.
Plus the soundtrack is fabulous, and you’ll leave the performance with several of the songs playing on repeat in your head. We’ve even taken to listening to the show’s music when we’re just hanging out at home, it’s that catchy.
For tickets to Dear Evan Hansen, click here. And don’t worry, they’re now a lot easier to get at face value, so it’s the perfect time to go!
Dear Evan Hansen has become one of my favorite Broadway shows ever, and you don’t want to miss it!

I want to see this so badly 😭 I’ve got all the songs memorized haha
Hopefully you get to go soon!
Happy for you! I love the musical, haven’t seen it, I know what it’s about, listened to the OST.. but I love it. 😍😍
My fave songs are Only Us, Waving through a window and You will be found.
Those are like my top songs, and the only songs at the moment that I have listened to more than 4 times 😄
Fingers crossed you get to see it in person soon!
I love the Broadway cast recording of Dear Evan Hansen and I hope to see it someday! I can’t believe that I was in New York a year ago and didn’t even know what Dear Evan Hansen was!
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! I think you’ll really love it!
I hope so. :)
Loved your article! I loved Dear Evan Hansen as well! I knew about the show for about a year before it’s off-broadway run at Second Stage. I figured the show would eventually make its way to the Broadway stage. Although, with the transfer of shows making it to Broadway these days is never a guarantee, even if the show is wonderful. So when I heard that it was playing off-broadway I jumped at the chance of seeing it. Which was really great for me cause like you mentioned, the show was nearly impossible to get a ticket for in its first year on Broadway. “Waving Through A Window” is one of my all time favorite Broadway songs ever. I’m sure you can tell, I am a huge theater nerd, lol. Glad to see another fan of the show!
Thanks Jodi! How lucky you were able to see it off-Broadway. Everyone should see it, in my opinion!
I saw the show with Taylor Trensch in it already but it was still wonderful and the OBC is so awesome. I totally almost cried when I met Rachel Bay Jones at the stage door 😂.
