The Christmas season is officially here!
For some New Yorkers Christmas starts when Santa pulls up in front of Macy’s at the end of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. For others, Christmas starts when the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is lit, or when they see their first Rockette high kick of the season.
But for my friends and me, the Scandinavian Christmas Ball marks the true beginning of the holiday season.
Every year in early December we descend on the Metropolitan Club for a festive black-tie ball, with thousands of flickering candles and dancing Christmas lights setting the mood for the holiday season.
During the ball I like to sneak into the upstairs library to take a picture standing on the table holding a book. Don’t ask me why – we started doing it the first year and it’s become a tradition! You can see pictures from past years here.
But by far the best moment of the ball is when the Saint Lucia singers serenade us with Christmas carols.
Then the rest of the evening is spent dancing!
