At the end of October, Greg and I decided to spend Saturday night at the library. Not because we’re huge nerds (even though we are!) but because the Catholic Big Sisters & Big Brothers was hosting its 20th annual October Ball. And even though we’re not directly involved in the charity, we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to attend a black-tie ball at the New York Public Library!
We looked forward to the event for weeks. It felt just like prom (except we could legally drink and didn’t have chaperones watching our every move)!
But luckily there was a camera capturing our every move. I just love this shot!
The inside of the New York Public Library is always gorgeous. But this night it was transformed into an even more magnificent space that made me feel like I was in a palace.
The event was so well done. Every detail was executed to perfection.

This year’s theme was “An Evening in Wonderland” and we were all encouraged to wear hats. The event even had some available for purchase if you happened to forget yours.

We couldn’t pass up the photo booth, of course!
A more fun way to see the pictures:
Upstairs there was a live band playing 90s throwback songs, which we loved, and everything felt very formal and fancy.
And then we ventured downstairs (or should I say down the rabbit hole?) where there was a DJ playing modern music.
There the vibe was anything but formal.

The night flew by, and before we knew it we had to head back upstairs…
…and venture out into the New York City evening.
I do so many amazing things in New York City that it’s easy for spectacular events to just feel normal. But the October Ball is one of those parties that’s so stunning it shocks even the most jaded New Yorkers out of their trance. It is absolutely incredible, and one of the most magical nights I’ve had in NYC. I certainly plan on going back next year (and the year after… and the year after that…).
