New York City may be heading into winter but the fashion world already has its eyes on spring. It’s barely December, but already I was invited to Saks’ new downtown location for an exclusive viewing of Tanya Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2017 runway-to-retail capsule collection featuring limited-edition pieces embellished with crystals from Swarovski.
Tanya Taylor is one of the fastest-rising stars in the fashion world. She launched her first collection in 2012 and has already dressed style icons like Michelle Obama, Olivia Munn, Lea Michele, Lady Gaga, Kerry Washington, Taylor Swift, Jessica Alba and Beyoncé.
And she was at the event too! Here’s Tanya:
And here’s her Spring/Summer 2017 collection:
Her collection is unique in that immediately after viewing it on the runway this past fall, shoppers were able to purchase the pieces. This is a revolution in the fashion industry because normally there’s a six-month wait before the looks move from the runway to the stores!
But if you missed that window don’t worry, the looks will be back again in February/March for spring deliveries.
I absolutely fell in love with this white dress. Isn’t it pretty?!
And the jacket features the same detailed embellishments.
You know because it’s Saks the preview was a major event, with a DJ playing fabulous music while gorgeous male models walked around with trays and trays of champagne and canapés.
It was so much fun!
I spoke with Tanya about her Spring/Summer 2017 collection, and she revealed that first she hand painted the floral patterns before transforming the design into clothing. How cool is that?! I suggested that she frame the paintings and hang them on her wall, and she just laughed. Guess that’s a no… although if I could paint like that it would definitely go in a frame!
I found several pieces that I loved…
So there was only one thing left to do…

And if you can’t wait until spring and already want to start wearing florals, the key, according to Tanya, is that winter florals should have a darker palate and shouldn’t look too sweet.
So now you’re all set for winter, spring and summer. Bring on the florals!
And bring on Tanya Taylor’s new designs.
