A Florida Fourth of July

Fourth of July weekend is one of the best of the summer, and this summer’s was one of my favorites. I headed down to Amelia Island in Florida with Kendall and a few other friends to enjoy a long weekend of sunshine, ocean waves and tropical drinks.

I arrived on Friday and went straight to the beach. I’m not going to let a few clouds stop me!

What was I wearing? My 4th of July bikini of course!

In fact, I proposed a rule that everyone was only allowed to wear red, white and blue all weekend. That was quickly vetoed by… everyone else. Oh well, I’ve still got my American pride!

I ran straight to the ocean (in slow motion, Baywatch style).

I loved being back in the sea!

That evening, we headed to my favorite ice cream shop, Fernandina’s Fantastic Fudge, for a sweet appetizer before dinner. Every time I’m in Florida I pretty much have ice cream every day!

(Remove the “pretty much” for a more accurate statement…)

That evening’s sunset was absolutely gorgeous.

The next morning I work up before everyone else and headed down to the ocean.

It was so serene that early in the morning.

I watched the sun fully rise while listening to the ocean waves. It was one of the most peaceful moments of the trip.

The peacefulness didn’t last for long! Once the others were up, I met them at the pool and they met me with drinks in their hands. Don’t worry, they brought one for me too!

That evening we cooked dinner and enjoyed it out on the balcony.

We even got to celebrate two birthdays: Kendall’s

and Sean’s!

The next day was another beautiful one, and the sea was calling my name!

And even displaying my name too!

I had mentioned to one of my closest friends, Jenny, that I would be in Florida over the weekend. She was planning on being there too, but didn’t think to ask where I’d be since it’s such a huge state. Well, after I posted a few pictures on Instagram, she texted me: “You’re in Amelia Island?! I’M in Amelia Island!”

It was such a fun surprise getting to see her, and her husband and son, when I hadn’t seen them for months!

That night, the squad went all out celebrating the 4th of July!

We had dinner at Salt, which is my favorite restaurant in Amelia Island. It has dozens of different flavors of salt, and each meal is served without seasoning. Then, you’re able to flavor your own meal with the salts, and one bite can taste completely different from the next. It is so cool, and you absolutely should try it while you’re there!

I love it so much that I have an entire blog post dedicated to Salt (the restaurant)! You can read it here.

After dinner, we headed out onto the beach and had a blast playing with sparklers (and taking pictures of ourselves playing with sparklers).

Then it was time to set off our fireworks. When Kendall bought them, she funnily confirmed with the saleswoman that they would be “drunk proof.” The saleswoman insisted that they would be fine, so we lit the first firework, not expecting much. To our surprise, it shot into the air and exploded into this massive firework that lit up the entire sky! Florida doesn’t mess around with its fireworks!

The rest of the fireworks were just as beautiful, and just as massive (and just as “drunk proof,” don’t worry!).

I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.

Happy Birthday America!
