While I was staying in London, my company arranged a flat for me in Shoreditch. For those of you not familiar with Shoreditch, it’s basically the Brooklyn of London. Some label it “trendy” and “up and coming,” whereas to me it was more “hipster” and “trying really hard” (not to hate too much on Brooklyn!).
But Shoreditch does have one really cool thing that I enjoyed: street art.
It’s everywhere! You can see it on the sides of buildings, on the sidewalk, on doors and on windows. It makes it easy not to get lost, because the buildings definitely don’t all look the same!
While some of it is really weird…
Most of the art is really cool.
In fact, I woke up early one morning just so that I could wander around and see more of it.
My favorite restaurant in Shoreditch is Beach Blanket Babylon, or BBB.
It has a really great vibe, and is cool without trying too hard (a rarity in Shoreditch).
I had lunch there my first day back in London, and started with the Burrata. It has burrata cheese mixed with smoked tomato and olive tapenade and is served on toasted bread.
I absolutely love burrata cheese, so I was a huge fan of this dish.
I also ordered the Beef Tartare because of how cool it looks. It’s made with cornichons and capers and is topped with a runny egg yolk.
When I took my first bite I remembered that I do not in fact like beef tartare! Hopefully I’ll remember that for next time (and not let my eyes do the ordering!).

Although, for the street art, it may just be worth it!
