As fun as it is to go out in New York, sometimes it’s nice to stay in, have a few friends over, and relax. Before, a host’s options would have consisted of dinner and/or Netflix. But now the city has ART BOX, a service that brings a fun painting party to your door. It’s a unique activity for your guests, and makes your night in that much more special.
You provide the food and drinks, and ART BOX brings everything else including canvas, paint, brushes, aprons and furniture covers. They will set up for you too, so all you need to worry about is welcoming guests and pouring drinks.
Unlike other paint nights in the city, because this is your party, ART BOX lets you choose what you’ll be painting. One of my friends loves Salvador Dali’s series featuring women with drawers, so I chose Dali’s Venus with Drawers as an inspiration:
Because we are not Dali, ART BOX simplified the painting for us, and drew grids on the canvas to make it easier.
We began by using a pencil to draw an outline of the woman.
Then it was time to paint!
The instructor, Shirley, did a great job of walking us through each step.
Although Shirley should have been more specific when she said to paint the arm!
I also appreciated how Shirley tailored the class to our group. She could tell that we were more interested in having fun than in creating a masterpiece (know your strengths, right?!), so she focused on making the class entertaining and less structured.
After the paint dried, we used these cool paint markers to draw on the drawers.
I loved seeing how different everyone’s paintings turned out!
Here’s our whole ART BOX squad:
And the best part, from a host’s perspective, is afterwards ART BOX dealt with all of the clean up, so I could focus on spending time with my friends.
The next day, Shirley emailed to say that we were one of the funniest and best parties that ART BOX has ever had. I’m sure she says that to everyone, but I’ll take it! And for what it’s worth, my friends and I had a lot of fun too!

So what do you think, are we the next Salvator Dalis?
