While my friend Ben was in town, we wanted to eat somewhere very “New York.” So we headed to Serendipity 3, the famous ice cream shop featured in the aptly-named movie, Serendipity.
While waiting for our table, we decided to look over the menu. It was a good thing we got a head start, look at how massive it is!
We were shown to our table, and let’s just say the decor is very… whimsical. The restaurant feels as if it was decorated by a group of 7-year-old girls!
If you can, try to sit upstairs.
Because the downstairs is just a little bit crazy!
The menu has food too, but it’s not worth ordering. The ice cream is the real draw of Serendipity 3! In fact, one of its sundaes, the Golden Opulence Sundae, is so decadent that it costs $1,000! You have to call 48 hours ahead if you’re planning on ordering one, which was a bummer because we were just about to request it!
Instead, Ben went with the Outrageous Banana Split. There is a regular portion and a “coward’s portion,” and Ben initially was going to choose the coward’s portion. But after the waiter and I shamed him, he decided to man up and go for the regular size!
I ordered the Caramel Pecan Pie Sundae, and loved it, especially the sauce!
As you can see, it was a LOT of ice cream! Luckily, according to Ben, his parents didn’t raise a quitter!
Clearly, mine did…
Serendipity 3 is worth visiting when you need an ice cream fix. But be warned, it gets very crowded! So you may want to go on off hours, or call ahead (212.838.3531) and ask about the wait.
You can find more information about the restaurant here.
Enjoy your ice cream, and don’t forget to wear stretch clothing!
