Summer may be over, but luckily happy hour is a year-round tradition. And Añejo, a restaurant and tequila bar in Hell’s Kitchen, is one of my favorite happy hour spots on the west side. The drinks are delicious (a must for a good happy hour!) and the food is tasty, with a modern spin on classic Mexican fare.
The second you sit down you’re immediately served drinks.
Unfortunately, it’s water in the bottle, not tequila! Thank you Añejo for the disappointing surprise!
But don’t worry, we also ordered margaritas. Because you can’t visit a tequila bar and not have tequila!
You also can’t visit a place that has food and not order food (that’s a thing, right?!). So we began with Guacamole Tradicional with ripe avocado, jalapeño, red onion, lime juice and cilantro. It was very fresh and delicious!
Because I love melted cheese (who doesn’t, really?!) we ordered the Braised Queso Fresco with pico de gallo and warm tortillas. It was SO good!
We also tried the Blistered Shishito Peppers served with Mexican chorizo, chipotle sofrito, yuzu-seasame salt, lime aioli and warm tortillas. I’m not normally into spicy foods, but I really enjoyed this dish. Just make sure you have your glass of water/tequila ready to wash it down!
See, aren’t you feeling happier already?

Here’s to endless happy hours!
