Because I haven’t been doing enough traveling lately, I decided to venture to Connecticut for a weekend away from the city. As much as I love New York, sometimes you just have to be near trees and open spaces again!
I headed to Saybrook Point Inn & Spa, a gorgeous hotel in Old Saybrook.
The inn is elegantly decorated, and offers refined luxury with sweeping water views.
Actually, this wasn’t my first visit. My cousin Marisa celebrated her wedding here several years ago! Here’s a throwback picture of my family in this very room:
The grounds of the inn are breathtakingly gorgeous.
My favorite flowers, lilacs, were blooming everywhere, so the air had such a beautiful (non-New York City!) scent.
The main draw of the inn is of course its location. It’s right on the water, nestled where the Connecticut River meets the Long Island Sound.
It even has its own marina, where boaters will dock for a few days or a few weeks.
In addition to the main inn, there are several villas and guesthouses on the property. We stayed at the newly-renovated Three Stories Guesthouse, and it was gorgeous! I want to live there year round!
The first floor of the guesthouse is quaintly New England.
While the basement feels more like an old boys club, and has everything from a mahogany bar and leather couches to a billiards room.
We are both apparently really bad at pool, and ended up playing what I’m sure is the longest pool game on record!
I also love the roof of the guesthouse. It has a fire pit, and chairs for hanging out and talking.
Our room was named after Ann Petry, the first black woman author to sell over one million books (and a former Old Saybrook resident).
The room was adorable. Each of the 8 rooms at the Three Stories Guesthouse come with their own private balconies. We were lucky enough to have ours overlook the water.
The bathrooms come with heated floors, which I now want in my NYC apartment!
And the showers come with three shower heads for a full body spray, so every shower feels like a luxurious spa experience. Now can you see why I want to live here?
I have three favorite things that I recommend doing while you’re at Saybrook Point Inn & Spa. First is of course visiting the SANNO spa. They have everything from massages to body scrubs, facials to nail treatments. I received a massage, and it was heavenly!
I also recommend relaxing by the pool, which is heated year round.
And finally, you can’t visit Saybrook Point Inn & Spa without eating at Fresh Salt. The restaurant has the freshest seasonal ingredients from local farmers and fishermen, and we loved everything that we tried.
The inside of the restaurant offers a warm atmosphere.
Or you can sit outside and enjoy views of the marina!
For breakfast, I recommend the the Caffé Latte for you coffee drinkers.
Even though it’s not on the menu, you can ask for a bowl of your favorite fresh fruit.
The Eggs Benedict is delicious, and comes with poached eggs, prosciutto and asparagus on an english muffin and covered in hollandaise sauce. I had never had asparagus on eggs benedict before and thought it was a nice twist.
The Lemon Scented Buttermilk Pancakes are also very good, and have a perfect blend of blueberry and lemon flavors.
We also liked the Daybreak Sandwich, which is two fried eggs, applewood smoked bacon and cabot cheddar cheese served on a brioche roll.
For dinner, order Fresh Salt’s New England Clam Chowder.
I also highly recommend the Parmesan Truffle Fries.
And you MUST try the Connecticut Lobster Roll, with warm lobster dripping in melted butter. It is absolutely to die for!
It was such a perfect trip!
