I have to admit, when I first heard of ChaiseFitness, a chair-based workout class in NYC, I pictured old ladies performing “Sit and Be Fit” exercises on daytime TV. Luckily I couldn’t have been more wrong!
ChaiseFitness combines Pilates and Zumba, and uses pulleys, props, and a uniquely-designed chair in a fast-paced cardio and strength-training workout. I went to my first class several weekends ago and I was sore for an entire week!
I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The lighting and music made me feel like I was at a club instead of at class!
Plus, the chairs were definitely not what I had been picturing.
Before every class, the instructor goes over the equipment and moves for the newbies, so there’s no need to be intimidated!
Well… no need to be intimidated by the equipment at least!
After the demonstration, she made us new students do the moves to make sure that we knew what we were doing.
Everyone watched.
What followed was a fun (and intense!) workout. The instructor was great, and brought a ton of energy to the class. This was definitely not a “Sit and Be Fit” workout! In fact, I’m pretty sure that the moves toned about 10,283 muscles at once!
These were some of my favorite moves. Our feet are pushing down a spring while we were doing lunges, so it wasn’t as easy as it looks!
This one was hard too! The spring kept popping up, so we had to essentially balance on nothing.
This was one of my favorites too. Mainly because for once I didn’t feel like I looked completely foolish!
If you’re looking to change up your fitness routine, I definitely recommend giving ChaiseFitness a try. The workouts are a lot of fun, and very effective!
The studio is having a new member special: 3 classes for $33. So you really have no excuse not to give ChaiseFitness a try! You can find out more information here.
Now back to icing my muscles…
