Street Art in the DTLA Arts District

As you may recall, I went on a wonderful street art tour in the Shoreditch area of London this past March. I didn’t know much about street art at the time, but I quickly became fascinated by it.

Last weekend I took my second street art tour, this one in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles. The walking tour lasted 1.5 hours and was organized by Graff Tours. It was so fun and informative, and if you are interested in street art, I highly recommend it!

We started the tour in a parking lot that is covered with street art.

Bougainvillea, in many shades of pink and red, blended in perfectly with the art.

On the opposite side of the parking lot, the artist RISK had covered a wall in beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow.

On the other side, RISK had done the same in blue.

This mural, one of my favorites, is a collaboration between artists DTOAR/Christina Angelina and Fin Dac.

This mural, titled “Undiscovered America,” depicts Native American heritage and history.

I could stare at this intricate design for hours…

And this is what I’ll be doing soon…

This piece by Tristan Eaton is perfect for LA! If you look closely, you can make out the words “I was a botox junkie.”

Our tour guide hadn’t tracked down the name of this artist, but what he or she did with the tires is unbelievable! And slightly terrifying.

This work, titled “The One with the Bubbles,” is by Kim West. You can find several of her works scattered around the Arts District.

This skull is by a group of artists called UTI, or Under the Influence.

I didn’t catch the names of these next few artists, but I loved their work.

A perfect representation of LA – the beach and freeways.

And how cute is this little polar bear?!

This stunning work is by JR.

At the end of the tour I saw this little sticker, and thought it perfectly summed up the day…

Go on and check out the street art in the Arts District! It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, in an area of LA that you might not otherwise think to visit.
