You know by now how much I love dancing, so it should be no surprise that I’m a patron of American Ballet Theatre. Last week we had our semi-annual Young Patrons Evening at Lincoln Center.
Despite the rain, it was an absolutely gorgeous night.
ABT is having its fall season at the Koch theater, the same place I laid on the floor and took those ridiculous photos! It was fun being back (but sadly the floor dancers are gone!).
The evening started with a Q&A with two of ABT’s dancers, Sean Stewart and Jennifer Whalen. We got to hear all about being a ballet dancer in New York. They told funny stories about performance falls, gave us the inside scoop on what rehearsals are like, and let us in on their dream roles. It was a really neat, members-only experience!
It also gave us the opportunity to be alone in the theater. Ann and I were so tempted to run up on the stage!
Between the talk and the show we headed to the Patron Lounge.
And were able to talk more with Sean and Jennifer, who are awesome people.
Then Ann and I headed to the balcony to take some pictures!
I’m wearing a Zac Posen dress (gorgeous, right?!) and he liked it on instagram! No big deal…
Afterwards Ann and I headed into the performance and watched our new friend Sean perform (Jennifer wasn’t dancing that night). The first piece was Raymonda Divertissements (my favorite), followed by Bach Partita, and finally Gaîté Parisienne (which had the most colorful costumes from the 80s and was Ann’s favorite). It was a fun show, and of course the dancers were incredible.
Afterwards, the Young Patrons Evening continued with a reception at nearby Tavern on the Green. Ann and I loved talking (and drinking!) with the other patrons and dancers.
You have to love a night that’s all about dance!
You can find information on supporting American Ballet Theatre here. It’s a great cause, and you may even have a bit of fun in the process.
