In the middle of the hustle and bustle of LA lies Lake Shrine Temple, a spiritual retreat owned by the Self-Realization Fellowship. The Self-Realization Fellowship follows the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, who used yoga as a means to recharge your body with energy, to reawaken the mind’s unlimited power, and to experience a deepened awareness of God.
The Temple grounds are sprawling, with beautiful gardens, a natural spring-fed lake, and of course the Temple itself. I let out a deep breath when I stepped onto the site, and instantly felt more calm.
Come, take a walk with me…
This beautiful site is the Mahatma Gandhi World Peace Memorial, which has a portion of Gandhi’s ashes enshrined here.
This structure was my favorite part of Lake Shrine Temple grounds. Isn’t it just beautiful?! And so out of place in LA.
Beautiful flora and fauna were scattered at the edge of the pathway, all in full bloom.
You can see the Temple peeking out in the background of this picture. Unfortunately it was closed at the time I visited the grounds, but tours are available and services are regularly held at the Temple.
At last I came to the end of my walk. I left Lake Shrine Temple feeling refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on another excruciatingly hot LA day.
Stay cool my LA friends. It’s a scorcher out there!
