A few weekends ago, I headed down to Governors Island and back in time about 100 years.
I had been looking forward to the Jazz Age Lawn Party since I moved to New York! For two weekends every summer, New Yorkers put on their finest 1920s clothes, and it is surreal how realistic it looks with everyone dressed up!
You bring a blanket and food, and spend the day picnicking with your friends.
Even though we’re celebrating the prohibition era, there’s still alcohol, don’t worry!
Then after the picnic: dancing!
Live bands perform, including Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, the world’s premier jazz-age dance band.
Watching everyone dance and seeing their fun costumes was my favorite part of the day!
Like my fringe?
The Jazz Age Lawn Party is easily one of New York’s most memorable events, and it’s not too early to get excited for next year’s celebration! You can keep up to date here.
And it’s never too early to start planning your costume either!
