After attending a live taping of The View, my parents and I headed off to find some lunch. We took two steps into Central Park when my dad saw Tavern on the Green, and that was that. My dad had always wanted to eat here, because Tavern on the Green is “in all those books.” When pressed to name one book where the characters ate at Tavern on the Green, my dad’s reply was “you know… lots of novels… all the novels…” Since my mom and I were eager to dine at a restaurant where characters from “all the novels” ate, we agreed and headed inside.
I do have to admit, the inside looks like something straight out of a novel!
Since it was a beautiful summer day, we decided to sit outside.
As a starter, we ordered the Faroe Island Salmon Ceviche with avocado, cilantro and blistered Serrano chili peppers with blue corn chips.
Up until that point I had been under the impression that I didn’t like ceviche because the citrus was too overpowering. However, this ceviche was EXCELLENT! Clearly, I just hadn’t been eating it at the right place!
We also chose the Tuna Melt with tomato, pickled red onion and cabot clothbound cheddar on organic whole wheat sourdough. You can never go wrong with a classic tuna melt.
We also ordered the Roasted Free Range Turkey Breast with Applewood Bacon sandwich, which comes with avocado, lemon aioli and greens on sourdough pullman bread. It is delicious!
Tavern on the Green is an iconic New York restaurant (just ask my dad!) that I highly recommend. Try to go soon, so you can sit outside and enjoy the weather! You can make reservations here.
And if you can think of a novel where the characters go to Tavern on the Green, my mom and I would love to hear it!
