Yesterday my sister and I celebrated my birthday at Duff’s Cakemix, a bakery and DIY cake decorating studio in West Hollywood.
You start the cake decorating process by filling out a Cake Kit Menu, where you select the size of your cake, the cake flavor and filling, the color of the cake and fondant, and get to choose 2 piping bags and 2 scoops from the Goodie Bar.
There were so many delicious options at the Goodie Bar, it was tough to choose! We decided to go with white malt balls and white sprinkles.
Once we filled out the Cake Kit Menu, we grabbed some tools and looked at the sample cakes for inspiration.
I had my eye on the orange flower cake at the bottom.
Then it was time to start decorating! We chose a pink funfetti cake.
We rolled out the white fondant and made little flowers with our tool.
Once the cake was covered in flowers, we used the orange and yellow piping bags to glue the malt balls in the center of the flowers.
We had extra malt balls so we added them all around the cake.
Ta da! Here’s the finished product! I think it turned out pretty well, don’t you?! A very summery cake.
The cake also completely matched my shirt, which I didn’t realize until after this picture was taken!
Decorating a cake at Duff’s Cakemix was such a fun way to celebrate my birthday. And in case you were wondering, the cake itself was absolutely delicious:
How could a three-tiered funfetti cake be anything but?!
