I swear I still live in LA, although it hasn’t felt like it for quite a while now! With all the traveling I’ve been doing, I am long overdue for a relaxing LA weekend. Two more trips (Portland & Toronto!) and then I’ll likely be staying put for a while.
This past weekend I drove up to Oxnard to spend the night with my parents. We started the day with a walk around the canals. It was a perfect day outside.
After a day of rest and relaxation, we headed to nearby Ventura for dinner at Cafe Fiore. Cafe Fiore is right in the heart of downtown, just off of Main Street. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant and has a really homey feel.
We took our seats and immediately got down to business – ordering drinks! I opted for the Red Sangria, while my mom was more adventurous and ordered the Avocado Martini, with Cruzan Mango Rum, muddled fresh avocado, lime juice, and a splash of vanilla vodka. It was delicious (and strong!).
For dinner, my Dad ordered the Spaghetti con Polpettine, with veal and ricotta meatballs. I teased him for ordering the least adult item on the menu, but they were very tasty.
My Mom ordered one of the specials of the night, the Spiedini Di Pesce Con Insalata Di Patate, which was rosemary skewers with shrimps, calamari, scallops and fish over a potato salad. She really enjoyed it!
I think my dish was hands-down the best dish of the night. I ordered the Involtini Di Maiale, which was pork tenderloin stuffed with goat cheese, ham and sauteed swiss chard with a mango chutney over creamy parmesan potatoes. It was decadent, rich, and absolutely wonderful.
It was such a beautiful dish, I had a hard time putting down my camera and actually eating it!
After dinner was over, we casually strolled along Main Street, working off our meal and watching the sunset.
It was a truly lovely evening.
