Winter Rolls

I recently decided to make Winter Rolls. I have no idea what inspired me…

In order to make sure that my Winter Rolls turned out better than New York’s winter, I decided to order from Plated. Plated is a service that delivers fresh ingredients and unique recipes straight to your door. It gives you everything you need for a fabulous meal, all you have to do is assemble and amaze!

Everything arrives labeled, and I was impressed with how fresh the ingredients were, even after transport!

And for those of you non-chefs, don’t worry. The recipe instructions have pictures, just like our blog!

To make these Winter Rolls (loosely based on the Plated recipe), you’ll need:

4 Beets

3 Carrots

5 Sprigs Mint

1/2 Head Napa Cabbage

1 Orange

1 Teaspoon Rice Vinegar

4 Rice Paper Rolls

Splash of Olive Oil

First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, take your beets and cut off the bulbs and the leaves.

Now cut the beets into smaller, thinner pieces.

Next cut your carrots into small, thin pieces as well.

Toss your beets and carrots with the olive oil and rice vinegar. Spread them out on a foil-lined baking sheet and cook for 15 minutes until crisp, stirring once.

While that is cooking, rinse your mint and pick off the leaves. You can go ahead and throw away the stems- you won’t need them!

Rinse your Napa cabbage and cut it into 1 inch by 1 inch pieces.

Cut your orange in half and squeeze it over the greens. Then (bonus!) you can eat the orange!

Now comes the artistic part: assembling the rolls! Start with a large plate that is filled with water. Soak your rice paper for about ten seconds before transferring it to another plate.

First, add the mint leaves.

Then, add the warm carrots and beets.

Finally, top with the Napa cabbage.

Next stop, drop and roll… the rice paper together!

And now for the moment of truth… how do my Winter Rolls compare to the picture on the Plated instructions??

Pretty well, if I do say so myself!

I definitely recommend checking out Plated’s menu. You can find it here.

And don’t you worry, Plated doesn’t just deliver in New York City! You can get Plated ingredients sent to your door in over 80% of the United States. To find out if you’re one of the lucky ones, enter your zip code here.

I prefer Winter Rolls over New York winter any day!
