It’s rare when you sit down for a meal and end up liking each and every single plate that is brought to your table. But that is exactly what happened when I went to Commonwealth with my family Sunday night.
Commonwealth is a globally inspired small-plate restaurant and wine bar located in Burbank. The restaurant is small, cozy, and romantic, making it perfect for enjoying a long meal with family or friends.
As my family always does, we ordered just a tad too much food…
Santa Barbara Uni with sweet wasabi, tobiko, shallots, and potato crisps.
Albacore Scoops with herb salad, jalapeño aioli, balsamic, and kalamata.
Chilled Duck Breast with sake soy and yuzu kosho.
Grilled Japanese Eggplant with garlic, burrata, and balsamic.
Grilled Octopus and Brussels with Thai vinaigrette, fresh mint, and chili.
Arugula and Roasted Cauliflower with arugula pesto, parmesan, and pine nuts.
P.E.I. Mussels with white wine, chili butter garlic, and grilled bread.
Shrimp Dumplings with shrimp, goat cheese, shiitake, and seafood cream.
Seared Hanger Steak with mushroom sautee, garlic, and black pepper cream.
For dessert, we tried the Fruit Flambe, with rum butter, candied pecans, and vanilla ice cream…
…and the Butterscotch Pudding with housemade whip, caramel, and crisp prosciutto.
I really can’t recommend this place enough, and I was genuinely sad when our meal came to an end! The food and wine were perfect, the ambiance was wonderful, and the staff was extremely friendly.
In fact, my parents liked the wine so much that they left with an entire case of it! I may or may not have stolen a bottle or two out of that case. Shh, don’t tell!
