Quadrille Ball

Last weekend I put on my tiara and white, elbow-length gloves and attended a high-society ball. You know, just a typical weekend in New York City…

The Quadrille Ball is a 54-year-old white-tie benefit ball to support the Germanistic Society of America. This Society was founded in 1908 to promote the cultural and educational exchange between Germany and the United States through study abroad scholarships for gifted students. I feel strongly about studying abroad, and was blessed with the ability to do so several times while earning my degrees. Therefore I was proud to support this good cause, although I have to admit I may have been a little more excited about dressing up!

Unfortunately, someone else had my dress!

19 other girls, in fact.

You see, not only was I attending the ball, but I was also performing a quadrille. This historic dance originated in the 17th century and is performed by groups of four couples standing in a square.

The Quadrille Ball limits these performers to single, young professionals who are sponsored by a former dancer (thanks Kendall!). We had been practicing all winter in preparation, and although that sounds serious I assure you there were plenty of all-night after parties!

It was such a magical evening, and is an experience that I will never forget. I highly recommend attending the Quadrille Ball next year. You can find out more information and keep a lookout for ball tickets here.

  2. Wearing a ball gown, long gloves, and a tiara, makes you look like a princess!
Have you posted video of yourself at the ball?
