As you know, my family recently flew out to NYC to visit me over Christmas. As is typical in my family, we first planned what we were eating each day, and only after did we decide what activities we had time for in between the food!
On a sunny day, between lunch at Katz’s Deli and dinner at Gotham, we decided we had time to visit the American Museum of Natural History.
Before I begin, I first have to give this museum major accolades. Not only did it give my brother complimentary admission because he is in the military, but it also gave our entire family entrance tickets because of Josh’s service. It was such a generous way to support our troops, and we appreciated this act of kindness.
This museum was number one on my dad’s list, he loves natural history museums. It was also on my list, because I had heard wonderful things about its Christmas tree!
From far away it looks like a typical holiday tree.
However, up close, you can see how amazing the decorations are! Thousands of origami animals decorate the tree, it is so incredible!
When Josh and I were younger, my mom bought us an “Origami for Dummies” book. It wasn’t actually called that, but you get my point. I struggled with the swan, so I can’t even imagine the talent that went into making the giraffe and the dinosaur for the tree!
I think I’m going to try decorating my tree like this next year! Mom where’s that book again??
After marveling over the tree, we wandered around the museum, taking in the exhibits.
I was impressed with how realistic the animals looked…
Until I realized that they were in fact actual animal skins!
Well done deer!
My favorite part of the museum was of course the dinosaurs!
If you’re into natural history like my dad, this museum can’t be beat. If natural history isn’t really your thing, then just entertain yourself with the dinosaurs.
And whatever you do, don’t miss that amazing tree!
