In order to get into the holiday spirit, my mom and I put on our ugliest Christmas sweaters (cough from her closet cough cough) and began baking these adorable snowmen cookies! Not only do I love how they’re decorated, but most importantly I love how they taste! This is by far my favorite sugar cookie recipe, so be sure to add it to your holiday baking list!
To make the dough, you’ll need:
1 Cup Powdered Sugar
1 Cup White Sugar
1 Cup Butter
1 Cup Vegetable Oil
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
4 Cups & 2 Tablespoons Flour
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Cream of Tartar
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
To make the frosting, you’ll need:
3 Egg Whites
1 Pound Confectioner’s Sugar
For decorating (the most fun part!) you’ll need:
First, cream together the powdered sugar, white sugar, butter, vegetable oil, egg and vanilla extract.
Then sift the flour, salt, cream of tartar and soda together.
Next add the sifted mixture to the first mixture and beat it all together.
Then wrap your dough, and refrigerate it for 8 hours.
Now there’s an easy way to do the next step and a hard way. You can roll out the dough and cut circles into it. Or, you can do what we did, and roll the dough into balls and then use your hands to flatten into circle-like shapes. Since snowmen aren’t perfect, and we had other things to do (spiked egg nog), we decided to go with the easy route.
Bake the cookies at 300 degrees for 20 minutes.
While the cookies are baking, start making your frosting. Beat the egg whites and sugar at high speed for 7 minutes.
Now for the fun part: decorating!
