Ever since I was little, these have been my absolute favorite Christmas cookies! I’ve tasted a few other recipes, and they just don’t compare. Throw out your old recipe, you won’t need it anymore!
It’s a tradition: my mom and I turn on the Christmas music, put on red and green sweaters, and make these wonderful cookies! It’s the same way we’ve made them every year since I can remember!
To make 5-6 dozen cookies (you may want to double the recipe if you’re planning on sharing!), you’ll need:
2 1/2 Cups Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Shortening
1 Cup Peanut Butter
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
4 Tablespoons Milk
2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
Red and Green Sugar
First beat together the shortening, peanut butter, sugar, and brown sugar.
Then add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Mine ended up looking like a creepy smiley face!
Now sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
And add that mixture to the beaten mixture.
Now remove the kisses from their wrapper (but you’re not allowed to eat them yet!)
This was my favorite part when I was little!
Next, mix normal white sugar with red and green sugar on separate plates. It’s tempting to want all colored sugar, but it really tastes better with normal white sugar too!
Shape the dough into balls, roll in the sugar, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Now bake your cookies at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.
Remove them from the oven and press the unwrapped kisses on top of each cookie.
Head back to the oven and bake for 2-5 minutes longer. Then serve on a fun Christmas tray!
