Recently, my friend and I went to Upstairs 2, a beautiful and quaint restaurant in West Los Angeles. Situated above a wine shop, it is the type of place that you drive by a million times without knowing it exists. I sure didn’t!
Upstairs 2 serves a wide variety of small plate, tapas-like items, and their wine menu is extensive. In fact, the menu is organized by wine type to help you select a perfect food and wine pairing. For a true wino like myself, it made ordering that much easier!
To get our meal started, we each ordered a glass of chardonnay.
For our first small plate, we chose the Prosciutto, Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread. It was delicious!
Our next dish was the Dungeness Crab Cucumber Roll with avocado apple coulis. We weren’t planning on ordering this, but eagerly flagged down our waiter when we saw it arrive at the table next to us. It was my favorite dish of the night and disappeared in two seconds.
When it was time to switch to the meat portion of our meal, our waiter suggested a full-bodied red.
Our first meat dish was the Boneless Beef Short Ribs with creamy polenta and red wine sauce. No knife was needed; they were tender and fell right apart.
For our final small plate we ordered the Kobe Beef Burgers with red onion relish and crumbled bleu cheese. They were a perfect end to the meal!
I was so impressed with Upstairs 2. The service, the atmosphere, the food… it truly is a gem of a restaurant, and one that I will go back to again and again!
