Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

One of my favorite traditions during the work week is getting lunch with my Dad. Yesterday we stayed near the office and went to Plan Check Kitchen + Bar, a restaurant in the Little Osaka neighborhood of West Los Angeles. I’m a little late to the game and had already heard a lot about Plan Check by the time I finally got around to going there. Luckily, it was as good as I had heard!

My Dad and I started off the meal with some sweet potato waffle fries. It came with a side of peach ketchup that was amazing!

My Dad ordered the Chef’s Favorite Burger, which is filled with cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, a sunny fried egg and hot sauce. He was boring and got the hot sauce and bacon on the side, but it still looked (and tasted!) delicious.

Ketchup leather, the chef’s unique invention, is a translucent sheet of dehydrated house-made ketchup. Sounds a little strange, but it seems to dissolve magically and perfectly into the burger.

I ordered the Plan Check Burger, which is filled with Americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions and mixed pickles. The bun, a ‘crunch bun,’ has panko bread crumbs sprinkled on top, which gives it a perfect, crunchy taste.

For dessert I couldn’t help but order the Cruller Donuts, which comes with cream and sliced bananas.

With juicy, cheesy burgers and great beer, you can’t go wrong with anything you order at Plan Check.
