Cooper’s Hawk Winery – Chicago

Last weekend I went to Chicago to see my family, and my grandmas picked me up from the airport. They insisted on taking me to lunch, so I insisted on Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant.

As you may have guessed, Cooper’s Hawk is known for its wine! The Cooper’s Hawk Winery produces over 125,000 gallons of wine a year. So drink up, there’s lots more where that came from!

When we arrived we were shown to our seats, and given the drink menu.

It’s easy to get lost in a menu with that much wine and champagne, so luckily the staff are experts at making suggestions. I didn’t even need to look at the menu, though, because I knew exactly what I wanted: Cooper’s Hawk Almond Sparkling Wine. It is so, so good!

After we made the important decision to order champagne, we were given warm, delicious pretzel bread to enjoy while we looked over the menu.

My grandmas both got Dana’s Parmesan Crusted Chicken. The chicken breast is crusted with Japanese bread crumbs (because apparently American bread crumbs are so last season!) and grated Parmesan. It is served with garlic spinach, Betty’s potatoes, tomato basil relish, and lemon butter. This led to a hilarious discussion about who Betty is and why her potatoes are different from Mary’s potatoes (which are also on the menu).

The both loved their chicken, and Betty’s potatoes!

My friend Amber always raves about the wedge salad, so I ordered that. It has chopped lettuce with a balanced blend of red wine herb vinaigrette, creamy Salemville Bleu Cheese Dressing, and is garnished with red onion, sweet grape tomatoes, Bleu Cheese crumbles, and warm applewood smoked bacon. It was good, but after I had heard so much about it I was expecting more.

Since just eating a salad goes against everything I believe in, I also ordered the Crab & Lobster Bisque Soup. It arrived loaded with big chunks of crab, lobster, and shrimp. Mmmmm…

After we finished eating, we wandered over to the tasting room. So many people were there taking a break from work to sample wine. Sounds like a good plan to me (as long as their boss doesn’t read this!)

The tasting room has a really cute gift shop with adorable wine-themed gifts. If you have wine lovers on your holiday shopping list (or if you just want to spoil yourself!) you should definitely check it out.

Cooper’s Hawk is one of my favorites, and every time I’m in Chicago I make sure to stop by. They have other locations in the midwest, and you can find your closest Cooper’s Hawk here.

Enjoy! And whatever you do, don’t forget the Almond Sparkling Wine!

  1. The food looks so good, and your grandmother’s are adorable. How far away is this restaurant from the city center?
