Three years ago I was lucky enough to spend 6 weeks studying in Augsburg, Germany. I had never been to Germany before, and frankly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I found there was great food, even greater people, and some outstanding beer.
Luckily for me, today I discovered Brats Brothers, a wonderful gourmet bratwurst restaurant in Sherman Oaks. Brats Brothers serves all of my favorite German food that I miss so much!
The decor is awesome, and a complete feast for the eyes. I didn’t know where to look first.
Who doesn’t love a bratwurst fan?!
My cousin Seth and I took a seat outside and immediately ordered some German beer.
For lunch, Seth ordered the Santa Fe Fire Bratwurst, with beef, pork, jalapenos and habaneros. He chose beef chili and German potato salad for his two sides.
The waitress warned him that it was spicy and she was not kidding! In between blowing his nose and wiping away tears, he said he absolutely loved it!
I ordered the The Big Cheese, which is a Swiss cheese infused pork bratwurst. For my two sides I chose cheese spaetzle and Bavarian tater tots.
The bratwurst may look plain, but I assure you it was anything but!
The bratwurst was pretty much perfect, but the sides were even better! Spaetzle is one of my favorite German dishes, and this spaetzle was heavenly.
But more importantly, these tater tots…
They were to DIE for! I very, very reluctantly let my cousin try one, and he loved them too.
For dessert we ordered the Kaiserschmarren, which is a homemade pancake souffle with rum raisins, homemade jams, whipped cream and topped with caramelized almonds.
We absolutely loved our meal at Brats Brothers from start to finish. From the beer, to the bratwurst, the sides and the dessert, every ingredient was authentic, fresh and delicious. It is now hands down one of my favorite restaurants, and one that I will keep on coming back to!
