After having so much fun on our Runyon Canyon hike, Sara and I decided that hiking is now our thing (provided of course that there is good food after!). So last weekend we decided to hike to Hollywood’s biggest celebrity: the Hollywood Sign!
Apparently there is an easy way to hike to the sign, and two more difficult routes. So being the adventurers that we are, we decided to take the… easy way. We parked our car at the end of Beachwood Canyon Drive, and then began the hike on Hollyridge Trail.
Turns out, the easy way is not that easy. I’m still sore from this hike! But the scenery along the trail was beautiful, and this quickly became one of my favorite Los Angeles hikes.
After hiking for about a half a mile, we came to a fork in the road. And we took the road less traveled. To the right, towards the back of the Hollywood sign.
There weren’t many people on the trail, but once we got to the top there were people everywhere! Luckily, we still had plenty of room for a photo. Just one…
Now despite what movies may have led you to believe, you cannot actually climb on the sign (or be rescued from the sign by a helicopter ahem Justin Timberlake). But you can get really close!
After taking plenty of photos, we hiked back to the fork in the road and took the other path towards the front of the Hollywood sign.
Exhausted from our hike, we decided it was time for food and began hiking back. Next time I’m bringing my horse…
A quick word of warning here: be careful when you’re coming back down the trail that you don’t go the wrong way. You can guess how I know this…
Sara and I went down the wrong trail (we still don’t know where we went wrong!) and ended up at the wrong entrance. It would have taken us over an hour to walk back to our car, and we were sooooo tired. Luckily, superhero Sara in a stroke of genius came up with a solution to our problem.
Taxi driver, take us to our car!
