Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut

There is nothing I love more than a good breakfast, especially when I have a long day at the beach ahead of me! That’s why I always make sure to stop by Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut whenever I’m staying at my parents’ beach house in Oxnard.

Mrs. Olson’s is a quirky hole-in-the-wall diner. We usually get here very early, before it gets too crowded.

The kitschy decor is great and will definitely keep you entertained while you wait for your food!

Okay okay, I’ll get back to what’s important. My mom ordered the Greek Veggie omelette, which was fantastic and my favorite dish of the morning. It’s filled with tomatoes, spinach, black olives and feta cheese, and came with cheesy potatoes and a cup of fruit on the side.

My Dad got the Chili Verde omelette, which is filled with tender pieces of pork in a mild green chile sauce. Yum!

I ordered the Breakfast Burrito, which is stuffed with eggs, ham, cheese, bacon and sour cream. It was an absolute monster.

Since we hadn’t ordered enough food, we also got a side of pancakes. These may look plain but I promise you they were anything but!

After eating here a few times, I can honestly say that you can’t go wrong with anything you order. All in all, you’ll find great ingredients, service with a genuine smile, and potatoes to back it up. Oh, and the beach is less than a 5 minute walk away. What more could you want in a morning meal?

Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut is open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily and is located at 117 Los Altos Street, Oxnard, CA 93035. They can be reached at (805) 985-9151.

  1. We have been going to Mrs. Olson’s for at least 20 years. We have never been disappointed with the quantity (OMG-easily enough for two people to share everything!!) or quality of their food and the friendly ambience. This restaurant is a favorite for the local fishermen, residents and tourists alike. GO GO GO and try it!!!!!! The counter is a great place to watch the cooks preparing huge mounds of the potatoes served every day. I’ve never seen anything like it before! Kitchen theater! Take the left-over potatoes home and use them the next morning in a egg-scramble. YUMMY! But, as Sara mentioned, get there early or you’ll have to suffer waiting outside looking at the Channel Islands and the ocean :))
